Platoon is a movie that portrays the vietnam war. This movie starring Charlie Sheen made the war seem like the veterans were out of their mines, the war was for a lost cause, and the veterans were fighting themselves. This move got an award winnning Oscar and bringing the actors of he movie to fame especailly Sheen. Another war movie soon came after that called Hamburger Hill and did not get an Oscar and it was just as good and to some better. aAccordign to Peter Katopes, Vise-President of our school in Laguardia Community College, wrote a paper about these films, of the good and the bad. He wrote that it was unfair for Platoon to get an Oscar because Hamburger Hill was just as good, it portrayed the good side and realistic view of how soldiers acted. Peter Katopes himself was a veteran and said, " I'am a veteran, and platoon portrayed veterans as bad soldiers killing each other who takes drugs and killed the vietnam people for no reason..... and I didn't do any of those things along with my fellow soldiers....Did they do it in real life? Hard to say because the army is a big Military Organization that recruits many so they might of did these acts.
Oliver Stone, Director of Platooon, made a fortune by making this film and none of it was giving to the military for eqipment or other accessories it might need. All of that money went to him and the actors. The film portrays a part of history thats why it is not being prosecuted, but the message is kind of telling us that veterans are crazy and cold hearted people. Bill Gates, creator of microsoft, made a game system called the Xbox 360, which made a game called Call of Duty, a war game, that is the most popular game out there today because of it realistic graphics and levels that make one want to keep on playing the whole day ( I should know). This is about the war between U.S (Marines) and Iraq (Opfor) and the battle to freedom (supposely). The game is ranked 4th place out of 10 of the best games out there. This is one way of getting people not to notice what is really going on the world today, the fact is that war is going on in Iraq and once it starts to get noticable people are going to stop playing games.
Media like movies and games gives us the message that everything is ok, when the fact is they just want the public to buy it to get money out of it and distract us from the reall truth.

Libraries Everywhere!
So I went to the library with me and my group, we met around 1:00 pm. We went inside the first floor and it looked like a museum. The First floor had accessories like audios from back in the day to present day, such as compacts, videos, disks, and DVDs(broadway musicals). They also had library catalogs and resources, listening units for a person who would like to listen to audios that they are interested in. The first floor also consisted music books present time and orchestra collections. It obviously had a source of pc's to look for information with a Gallery of Donald and Mary Oenslager across from it.
The second floor you could see the gallery in a higher view, across from it are music books and sources(closed shelf reference score and books) reference music desk right next to it. There is also a library catalog resource, but with a song index. After thhat there is seating for the public, then music for all types of genres such as classical, jazz, broadway, etc. On the other side there are books on arts, administration, dance, film, drama, and books.
The third floor was really full of security and we had to check in our bags to go inside. This floor had a lot of stuff that was valuable like open shelf reference music books, reference theatre and dance books. They had a viewing of theatre of film and tape, and a room for special collections to read(cornel room). Besides that the room was full of computers to listen or look up information of any subject of the performing arts that you would like to know about. After that we all just went home. My overall experience of going to the library is to me a great discovery because I, as a musician, needed to go buy a peice of music online or something I could just go to that library and copy it. Pretty convenient for me if you ask me!

College!
SO HERE I AM! Writing in my blog and i got nothing to say. So i guess i'll start talking now. So college is fun i guess and totally different from highschool, even though our Film History teacher( cough, cough ) kind of acts like a high school teacher by taking our attendance in the beginning of class ( stupid if you ask me ) like high school, but im not trying to shout anybody out. Besides that Dr. Lucca ( Loui ) and Dr. Smith ( Dr. Smith) are cool teachers and are very interesting but hard at the same time. It was true what people say and college is not like highschool or nowhere near it. More responsible, more work, and no playing around. This is all a challenge to me because if i dont accomplish this i am not going to go anywhere in life. I need to try to pass with flying colors and go do what i want to pursue. And you may ask, what you want to do? And the answer is ............ not going to say it. Trying to make it a mystery, you know? It makes it fun right? Well sorry for you guys who wanted a long blog, but this is all i got people.....when i get a real assignment you will see a good one just for you guys.
P.S. Get ready for the final guys!

Libraries vs Saving Earth
The first time I ever set foot in a library was because of comic books and internet access, but other than that I thought it was boring. To tell you the truth I never liked to read until I snapped out of that mentality because reading is the way of life and we got to do it in order to pass anything like college. Talking about college our class went on a trip to the library on bryant park 42 street. First I had to go with my group to the regular library across the street from the "fancy" library after. We went to the library and started our hunt for what each information each floor had, we started on the third floor. That floor was about art inluence and different art cultures. We asked a librarian to search for a grafitti artisit called "Bansky" she ended up flipping out and yelling at us saying the computer is never wrong and she didn't type it wrong. We left the her presence immediately and asked another librarian for help, that he did. We didn't find the artisit but found old grafitti portraits. We went to the fourth floor that was specifically about periodicals and computer classes. My group ended up play tag, we all sat down when we found out they called security on us (pure luck). We went on the fifth floor, it had info on history and socail sciences, biographies, religion, philosophy, and folklore. We went back to the first floor which was basically about traveling and culture. The second floor is about general reference like health, education, job, and accesibility services. After we did that we went to eat and went straight to the "fancy" library. That library was very sophisticated. It had one copy of originals from back then and is updated everytime. We saw the orginal latin "Bible" and the original dolls from Winnie the Pooh. We saw the library and it looks very old inside and very peaceful to do work there.
All the stuff I do to save the planet is on week five and it has still been the same ever since but I'm trying trying to save planet earth and do the same its cool!

GOING GREEN LIKE "DR. SMITH"
Well what I have been doing to preserve the universe is stop littering and throwing random garbage on the street. I used to litter all the time, didn't care about throwing it in the garbage because my friends did it all the time and was to lazy to throw it away in the proper place. As time went by I started to care and throw away garbage from time to time but still littered gradually. As soon as I saw the movie The Inconvenient Truth, thats when I started to get serious because tragic incidents can happen such as the world being surrounded by water, the earth getting burning to death like my children's grandchildren will not get to live on earth, and just making the earth go to destruction in total. Ever since that day I changed my mentality on saving planet earth it is saving us, with out it we cannot live, so why would we kill something that basically gives us life? I started to throw away any little things and if there wasn't a garbage anywhere I would hold it in my hand and save it until I saw one. It is funny how a simple video can change your whole way of thinking, I think once death goes in the picture people go insane and try to do every way possible to prevent it. I also turn off the lights every time I leave the house, my parents leave all the the plugs connected to the outlets and I'm kind of lazy to unplug it so I confess I don't do that, but maybe I will when I get my own house. Every time I see someone throw away garbage I give them a nasty look, even to my friends, I tell them off, i say "PRESERVE THE EARTH MAN!", which is the funniest thing when you see me in the act. I know i still got a lot of things to do to take care of the planet but its still in process, so for the people who are crazy with preserving the universe don't assassinate me because I'm doing the best I can.

"Inconvenient Truth" vs. "A Day at The Museum"
Well a day at the museum was quite fun because it was like another scavenger hunt getting to the specific area that was about global warming, but we found after 20 minutes. We finally found the place and searched for the key points that was assigned to each one of us. After we did our work we explored the museum until it got boring and wanted to leave but got lost and went on another scavenger hunt to the exit.
The information that we had to find was greenhouse gases, ice cores, tree rings, and ocean sediments. Greenhouse gasses consist of water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. The most important is water vapor, is the amount of carbon in the atmosphere increases the more the warmth. Ice cores gives a detailed record of climate for the last 115,000 years, it is important for understanding how the earth climate works. Tree Rings are sentive indicators of annual climate. Thick rings show the rapid growth during warm, wet years. Thin rings indicate slow growth in the dry years. They could also be chronologically extended back to thousands of years, but one can record the local climate. Ocean sediments show us the seasonal changes in biological activity where sediments are deposited. Light layers are formed during winter while dark ones for in the summer.
Overall the museum was very resourceful because it gave us information on the different types of fources that affect climate and how it affects global warming. The information was very easy to find because the place was pretty small and everything was close together. The movie "The Inconvenient Truth" and the "American Museum Of Natural History" were both believable in my opinion. The movie supplies us with a hand full of information, especailly when Al'gore gives us the statistics of how the earth is warming up as time goes by because of the amount carbon dioxide in the world, he also tells us if people keep on littering, waisting light, and pollution we all could be indanger of flooding to even the massive sun burning everything in sight. The museum is also credible because the facts are based on scientist who study, travel in space, and collect artifacts to show everyone who visits that it is a major issue and could get some educational knowledge on what is going on in this world today.
The film, museum, and media are all connected because it all compliments one another. The film and museum are a type of media because it is a type of entertainment but in a educational sense.
It is a pretty clever thing to do because every school, tourist, or even scientist interested in the matter will go out and observe the film and the museum to get an educational trip, amazement of it all, or the whole concept of how people should protect the world before it rejects us.
Humans today do not care about preserving the earth and should because the consequence will be a bad outcome. If we get people to care about little things like polution, recycling, preserving electricity this earth will be healthy and not back fire on us, but if people just stay the same way and not care, planet earth wont care.

"Gnosticism"
Gnosticism is basically the religious belief of how people are souls temporary on this materialistic planet doing good until they pass and go to the place they been waiting for there whole life. I think an example of Gnosticism is Christianity, it teaches us about how to be Christlike because it will grant us all the gift of everlasting life after death because everything in this world when we die comes to waste. Christians believe this and do not prize any possessions because they know that it does not worth anything in this world but the ways of the bible, and stuff like money or items will corrupt and distract there purpose to the pursuit of happiness.
As we all know the the movie "Matrix" does relate to it because it is using the concept, if one was to free there mind out of the matrix before a robot comes and kills before you come out. So the drone robots are using a dream world to distract the people that are not freed to keep them until a robot needs them, so if you were free a robot that looks over to see if all there batteries(humans) are not good and have to dispose them until they are retrieved by there ship such as the Nebuchadnezzar or so on and so forth (sounded like a teacher).
In Plato's Allegory we see his way of gnosticism, talking about someone that might be in a cave in the dark for all of his life and has been showed what it is to be the manufactured truth (enormous fire) and the absolute truth(sunlight). Once me see the sunlight inside of the cave the person stuck in the cave will know automatically that half truth will not be worth believing because the whole truth was revealed. Therefore that person in the cave will do anything to get the truth even if it is escaping out the cave, but when he does he has the whole world ahead to explore and discover the truth(metaphorically).
Media can definitely relate to these three analogies because media believe it or not, tells us the mixed truth, they hold back on the real truth and give us what we already know and does not tell what we need to know. Media just bombards us with every type of news anyone could think of because they want to distract the publics curiosity into what this world actually is. I think people just don't care because if we did try to figure/research it out what is happening today on the real truth the government will still not care on the communities point of view and still be corrupt running the city the way they want to. I tried guys lets see what my grades will comes up to, hope its not a 15 because i will be tight!
p.s. if you guys don't know what tight is look it up......nah just playing it means pissed.
